Information Technology (IT)
Life would be very different without the modern information technologies.
IT serves the purpose of creating and improving communication methods. As most communication happens through networks and in digital form, any IT degree program contains courses on network and systems technologies, digital signal processing and information transmission. Aside from the advanced mathematics and physics knowledge these courses require, computer science has become an integral part of every IT related degree. Most universities also include business and management courses in their curricula. The further degree program contents and to which extent the mentioned subjects are covered depend upon the individual specialization choices each student makes.
Possible fields of work and further study opportunities
Due to the wide array of ways in which IT is utilized, there are numerous and always new possibilities for combining courses from different discipline areas. As IT is a very general subject, especially at undergraduate level, students tend to develop a particular expertise in the field of work they wish to enter through combining courses from different disciplines and undertaking internships.
Principally, any industry is open to IT graduates, as there is hardly any business left that does not rely on some form of IT and consequently requires experts, who can support whichever technology system that is in use. It is also common for graduates to launch start-ups based on ideas they developed throughout their studies or to work as freelance consultants.
